Gorham House, an assisted living facility, has allowed Sacopee students to participate in paid internships. Students learn how to care for patients, including feeding and changing, as well as assisting the nurses. Gorham House has a memory care unit with patients who have dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, so students can also learn how these conditions affect memory, the ability to think clearly, and disruptions in behavioral and social skills.

Wild One Motorsports is a local automotive repair facility who welcomes student interns to learn about basic care and maintenance from the owner/operator. This includes changing oil, checking fluids, rotating tires, and replacing brakes. Depending on the vehicles that come into the shop, interns can learn about how to repair and replace a multitude of worn out and broken parts.

The Local Gear, a bicycle sales and repair shop has hosted job shadows for Sacopee Valley students. Students gain mechanical experience with all types of bikes including e-bikes.

Several Sacopee Valley students have completed job shadows and internships at the Cornish Hair Salon. They are able to observe several stylists while they perform a variety of haircuts, colors, highlights, styles, and treatments.

Several Sacopee Valley High School students have job shadowed at Ossipee River Dental. Students are able to watch the hygienists complete routine dental cleanings as well as watch the dentist perform different procedures such as fillings, tooth extractions, bridges and crowns, and root canals.

Students interested in preschool and early childhood education can complete an internship in our district’s pre-K classrooms, which is a public preschool program for four year olds in the state of Maine. Students are able to engage with students in a variety of hands-on activities and learn about the physical, cognitive and social/emotional development of children.

HEB Engineers, a firm providing civil engineering, structural engineering, and surveying services throughout northern New England, will host students interested in engineering in job shadows. HEB works with government, commercial, and industrial entities, as well as architects, developers, and individuals.

A Sacopee Valley High School 2023 graduate dedicated an enormous amount of time and effort for his ELO class during his senior year. He set a goal in September to learn about how to earn a Maine Guide license. From there, he interviewed multiple Maine Guides across the state, took a three day class at Attic Lodge Outdoor Learning Center in Lebanon, and spent hours studying everything from tree species to GPS navigation. He passed his licensing on June 2, which also happened to be the day of his high school graduation! This student is now enrolled at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Portland Gastroenterology has hosted a Sacopee Valley student in an internship. The student was able to watch procedures, such as colonoscopies and endoscopies, after the doctor obtains patient permission for her to be present. The student observed through the endoscope and gastroscope viewers to understand how the tools work. This student had already earned her CNA certification through Lake Region Vocational Center as well.

Several Sacopee Valley High School ELO students have done a variety of job shadows at the Sacopee Valley Health Center, located just down the road from the school. Students have toured and interviewed doctors, nurses, physician assistants, and radiologists.

Several Sacopee Valley students are completing the Maine Health Clinical Career Awareness Pre-Apprenticeship. Participants explore specific clinical healthcare careers and pathways at MaineHealth. Through a series of self-paced, online and virtual course modules, participants are introduced to concepts they will encounter in clinical training and the healthcare workplace such as patient care, medical terminology, workplace communication, public health, study skills, and more. Sacopee Valley Heating and Cooling is a local HVAC company that regularly hosts students for job shadows. The owner/operator works mostly within the five towns that comprise the school district, so students can see a variety of residential and commercial job sites close by!

The Sacopee Valley Information Technology (IT) team regularly takes student interns to explore and grow their interest in computer technology in a practical way. The primary purpose of the student internship is to provide on-the-spot technical help for students and staff at Sacopee Valley High School and other schools in the district. In addition, interns may be asked to participate in projects as needed by the department to gain hands-on experience supporting a complex IT environment.

Sacopee Valley students who want to make connections in the law field have interned at Heritage Law, a local civil law firm. Students can participate in simple drafting of documents, act as a witness for estate planning, and interview clerks, judges, and lawyers. Students can also job shadow various prosecutors at the Cumberland County District Attorney's office.

They have an amazing education department who love to engage students interested in pursuing this career pathway! They also have many acting opportunities for young actors as well as a strong summer program.

Students interested in speech pathology can complete an internship with our district’s speech pathologist at the elementary school. Student interns watch and assist the therapist work in groups and one-on-one settings to help with a variety of speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders.

Sacopee Veterinary Clinic has hosted student job shadows and internships. Students can learn how to prep animals for surgery, observe surgeries including both spays and neuters, and how to care for the animals after surgery. When diagnostic tests are performed, students can look through the microscope and see all of the different microorganisms. During appointments, student interns also get to watch shots being administered and annual exams.

Faulkner does custom fabrication, machining and welding of aluminum, stainless, and steel for a variety of industries around the state. This is a great way for students to get experience with real world welding applications.
